Hi all! So sorry for not being there today. I'm under the weather and saving you from the germ mongering. Attached is a sort of study guide for both the LT2 test on this Friday (yes, I know I said I wouldn't do this) and the final exam on June 10. I'd focus today on what's relevant for LT2, which is in the second half of the study guide. Remember the REAL study guide is the Factors of Water Quality packet. If you've lost it, it's in the post before this one. ALSO, I will be checking Current Event Journals tomorrow. Today is a great day to get caught up if you're not. The dates are as follows: CEJ #1: 4/5 CEJ #2: 4/12 CEJ #3: 4/26 CEJ #4: 5/3 CEJ #5: 5/10 CEJ #6: 5/17 CEJ #7: 5/24 Make the most of today, y'all. I love you. Thank you for holding it down for me. Love, Fletch

Hey there Class of 2022! Use this outline as a guide for prepping for the LT3 test on global climate change this Friday (March 22).
Make sure to check the last 3 posts in the discussion board for other articles. Here is a list of articles we've sourced as a class: 1- California pollution: Latinos, blacks breathe 40 percent more pollution than whites in California, study says 2- Tidal floods driven by climate change may hurt small businesses 3- Swedish student leader wins EU pledge to spend billions on climate Additionally, you should have at least 2 of the attached magazine articles.
Linked here is an article about a 16 year old girl who has inspired a global environmental movement and convinced the European Union to spend BILLIONS on restoring the climate!
Swedish student leader wins EU pledge to spend billions on climate Hi everyone!
Apologies for being out yet again. I've got a sick baby at home and trying to get him back healthy. If there are typos, it's because I'm holding him while posting this. The struggle is real! I hope you enjoy your half day. Fingers crossed for a Snow Day tomorrow! For today, I've got an article I'd like you to read. Don't worry- it's short. But I think it brings some of the deeper social issues of climate change into the conversation. There are a few questions I'd like you to answer. This CAN count as your Current Event Journal for this week! abc7.com/5123607/?fbclid=IwAR2-VspWLzv3O31oqCRmxjS8Ju4BGprOVS5bngZIYnvwhX8OxqkVGPHf0Qw Your reflection questions: 1) What is the gist of this article? 2) While global climate change is not specifically named, how does pollution in California relate to issues of global warming? 3) Why does it matter that, based on evidence, communities of color are more deeply affected? BONUS OPPORTUNITY!!! If you write an additional Current Event Journal on any ONE of these additional articles, I will bump your current HOW4 grade to a 4!!! www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2019/02/10/officials-seek-more-protections-for-city-wetlands-counter-effects-climate-change/2Re1T3h9Xie3Ndrttl07pJ/story.html?s_camp=bostonglobe%3Asocial%3Asharetools%3Afacebook&fbclid=IwAR1OJuVzd_WaPLp66WNCpoQqxuD61LCEZdG3ujrOPv1noGDiMIm0PqDCTxE www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-45043989?fbclid=IwAR1f640rvdN0YU4HIdsa6oaZXxh3Cbtf35_sVomOKeNen3UZIWjzcifB9s0 www.npr.org/2019/01/30/690003678/massive-starfish-die-off-is-tied-to-global-warming?fbclid=IwAR1_L-vTjmzsDZSWTDDwPgoZXhyJ3kMmUNdXzRo8U_5x_QDCPzRfVW6-usE https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/new-epa-board-member-john-christy-is-climate-change-skeptci_us_5c565b84e4b00187b55185fa?utm_source=fb&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=EPA&fbclid=IwAR2-acxTPtCK0NVM4jq0KIfnWDPYuzcCOsrKniZSynXOteaMFvzLChEwwpI www.miaminewtimes.com/news/broward-everglades-oil-drilling-plan-the-first-in-decades-is-approved-for-kanter-real-estate-11074538?fbclid=IwAR0hox7uFtp3FgBv9oVkWx5IAeXLqLNUVdIXS3ZR3ZOWt6KKkNzFDKbxtgI www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/feb/10/plummeting-insect-numbers-threaten-collapse-of-nature?utm_term=Autofeed&CMP=fb_us&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR2RwGpAjC9IzQ7h5R3f_n8sYH6agBU1gdnt5Ph079D86_Qdw_S8BpCfp8w#Echobox=1549826853 Hey all!
I know the conversation around weaponized weather and HAARP has piqued your interest, so I've done some digging. I found a couple of resources I thought you might enjoy (and want to bring into the round-table discussion/debate. Education is power! Have fun digging! I'll share more as I find it! University of Alaska's response to conspiracy theories: https://www.gi.alaska.edu/facilities/haarp Mick West's take on the HAARP theory: https://www.metabunk.org/haarp-returns-holds-open-house.t7867/ What is causing the "Windsor Hum" at Zug Island? https://science.howstuffworks.com/science-vs-myth/unexplained-phenomena/zug-island-mysterious-spot-likely-behind-windsor-hum.htm Howdy folks! Welcome to the countdown to high school midterms! Attached you will find study guides for LT1 and LT2, which will help you prepare for the big exam.
Hi folks! I'd love for you to complete the attached practice paper for homework. You are welcome to either simply answer the questions on a separate piece of paper or print the document and fill it out.
In case you need additional resources, here's a link to a couple of great websites to help guide your understanding! https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/weather-versus-climate-understanding-the-difference-of-the-two-terms/70003861 https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/noaa-n/climate/climate_weather.html https://nsidc.org/cryosphere/arctic-meteorology/climate_vs_weather.html Please download this document to your OneDrive.
Hey y'all!
Apologies for not being there with you today. I hope you had a GREAT weekend. I've done lots of thinking and planning around the suggestions you all gave to me on Friday, and I'm excited to start implementing some of those changes! It was such an inspiring day!!! Attached to this post is an introduction to the Greenhouse Effect. I'd like for you to read the packet and answer the questions at the end in the NOTES section of your binder. What doesn't get done in class will need to be completed for homework. Don't worry; we will dig into this on Wednesday when you return. Something about the Greenhouse Effect is confusing and complex. We will work with some interactive tools online and even build a model to help us understand it more deeply. I miss you all and can't wait to see you Wednesday! xoxo, Fletch PS- At the end of class, make sure you're completing your Ticket to Leave! I want you to comment below on the following question: "Write a short summary of how the greenhouse effect impacts global climate. Also, re-answer the Do Now question... is it a "good" thing or a "bad" thing as we currently understand it?"
Hey folks!
You've got the option to either hand write or type your Artist Statement. If you choose to type it, download this document to your OneDrive, delete the text lines after the questions, and fill in the questions. Hey y'all! Welcome to Part 2 of the Semester 1 LT1 Assessments of Learning! Here is yet another way to show your Earth Systems chops by unleashing your creative potential. Attached to this post are the Project Description and Initial Rubric. Read them well for now is your only chance to make suggestions for modifications. The power is yours! If I can give an encouraging word, it is this... find the creative medium that is most interesting and fun to you. I've had students use all sorts of cool stuff! Minecraft, GTA, videography... the options are limitless! Hopefully you find a way to enjoy this project and find a fun way to show just how much you've learned! Feel free to post questions and comments as they arise.
On this page, we will occasionally partake in conversation in an online forum. What this means is I will post a prompt, article, image, or whatever, and you will be required to comment on the post.
So in order to get started, let's give this a go! Below, please comment with your name and preferred nickname. Then tell us which animal you'd be if you could be anything. Make sure to explain WHY! |
